Blue Monday People is a three-piece acoustic soul-jazz band, featuring vocalist François Vaiana, double bassist Lara Rosseel and guitarist Benjamin Sauzereau. The deep and minimalistic sound originates from their intention “to tell stories”. Lara’s deep groove connects perfectly with Benjamin’s light structure and soundeffects. Both musicians give Franc?ois’ voice great freedom of movement. Their music is a subtle mixture of European spleen and American blues. Some of their stories stem from the soul standards of the 70s, others stem directly from their view of the contemporary world. Imagine Bill Withers, Nina Simone and Kurt Weill discussing Baudelaire, Ben Okri and Alice Walker over a good meal. All the songs have a comforting warmth to them, ultimately reminding us that “everything is gonna be alright”. Their repertoire combines original compositions by singer Franc?ois Vaiana and songs from the 60s and 70s. The latter were rewritten with the necessary simplicity and originality to get to the heart of the lyrics. François’ songs are urban stories that have their origins in his many travels and encounters all over the world. He recounts situations and characters we are all familiar with: they are always about the good and bad sides of mankind, free of any judgement.
