Saxophonist and bass clarinetist Toine Thys has belonged to the Belgian jazz top for two decades. When he is not making his own music for a while, he is in the studio with Reggie Washington, Ben Monder and Jozef Dumoulin, among others. In short, the perfect profile to watch over the Club Stage on the last day of Jazz Middelheim – in three different guises.

With Dervish, for example. The band that also includes STUFF. Bassist Dries Laheye and that places itself somewhere between Boards of Canada, Flying Lotus and Dorian Concept. In other words: a retro-futuristic cocktail of jazz, groove and electronics that would probably not have been out of place in the 1970s on the soundtrack of erotic film classics such as 2069: A Sex Odyssey and Flesh Gordon. Although we have of course only heard it said.
