With her own band, Belgian bassist Lara Rosseel brings a playful repertoire that can be described as ‘ethnic acoustic jazz’. She presents dancing melodies with delightfully surprising rhythms, in which she lets almost filmic jazz flirt with African traditional roots. Together with a seven-member band, she presents her latest debut album, ‘De Grote Vrouw’. The title of the debut album ‘The Great Woman’ refers to the greatness of all women and female things in this universe, and at the same time questions it. The album embraces doubt in tenderness and positive honesty. The band creates a world of security and fantasy where nothing is the same as where the laws of gravity rule. The whole set of tracks is a combination of full band pieces with more intimate moments by bass solo or in duo.
