Ber will close that day with the trio Malaby / Dumoulin / Ber – a small miracle, noted De Standaard, because the American saxophonist Tony Malaby is a New York icon, “and the fact that he saw this project says a lot about the talent of Ber. ” But of course it also says a lot about the status of Jozef Dumoulin, whose keyboards and Fender Rhodes helped ensure that Maps & Synecdoches, the debut album of the trio, has become such an alien quirky curiosity. “Bold”, “mysterious”, “suspenseful”, “inventive” are just a few of the words that regularly crop up in reviews – both from the album and from the trio’s concerts. “Improvisation” is another one of those, by the way.
